I had no idea that Kathy had passed away until I researched her profile to reference while posting an article written cogently by her in 1976. She was 14 at the time of comprehending, analyzing, summarizing, offering insight, and calling us all to a life of action to vote, write our political representatives, and speak out against damaging policies.  

Let's honor Kathleen's memory by stepping up to the plate re: her call-to-action!

RIP, Kathleen...You are missed.

Kathleen Coleman, 41, of Brookings, was found deceased at her home on Dec. 24, 2003, of apparent natural causes.

She was born July 24, 1962, in Paradise, Calif., to Owen S. and Bonnie J. Jordan Coleman.

She was raised in Paradise and, following graduation from Paradise High School, she attended Chico State University for two years.

Kathleen moved to Pleasanton, Calif. and was employed as a bookkeeper for Lincoln Land Development for several years.

She had made her home in Brookings since 1997, where she enjoyed the ocean and natural beauty of the area. She owned a beloved cat, Banner.

She enjoyed writing and was artistically talented. She appreciated music and liked to sing. She was also an avid reader.

She was a sensitive woman who was conscientious in her care of others and their feelings. Family and friends were very important to her, according to her family.

Survivors include her parents Owen and Bonnie Coleman of Brookings; brothers Don Coleman of Brookings and Mike Coleman of Springville, Nev.; sister Nona Miller of Los Angeles. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 770 Elk Drive, Brookings.

Cremation was under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel and Crematory.
